Operating and Data Management

The heterogeneous system landscape and the different data quality levels in ERP systems, in data warehouses and other operative applications make high demands on operating and data management in companies.

Operating Mode STRAT&GO Performance ManagementOperating Mode
The STRAT&GO applications can be operated in four modes: 3-tier architecture, fat client, thin client or a single machine.

3-Tier Architecture (Smart Client)
In 3-tier architecture a client installation is done on the end user pc. Furthermore an independent application server is installed with the application service. All settings like database connections and user settings are taken over by the application server.

Fat Client
In fat client architecture a standalone installation is done on the end user pc. The client accesses directly the database server. All settings like database connections and user settings are taken over by the local computer.

Thin Client
In thin client architecture a client installation is done on the end user pc. Furthermore the application service is installed on the database server. All settings like database connections and user settings are taken over by the application server.

Single-Machine
In single machine architecture all three components are on a single computer. All settings and the database are local.

Operating Modes at a glance
Operating Mode Advantage Disadvantage
3-Tier
  • Only client components on the end user pc (no activation)
  • Automatic actualization of the client components
  • Connection providers have to be configured on the application server only.
  • Concurrent user possible

  • An additional computer is needed for the application service.
  • Clients can work only if application service is up.

Fat Client
  • Working without application server possible (no installation)
  • No additional computer is needed for the application service.

  • Standalone installation on every end user pc (licensing and activation)
  • No automatic actualization of the components.
  • All connection providers have to be configured on every computer.
  • Concurrent user not possible.

Thin Client
  • Only client components on the end user pc (no activation).
  • Automatic actualization of the client components.
  • Connection providers have to be configured on application server only.
  • Concurrent user possible
  • No additional computer is needed for the application service.

  • Clients can work only if application service is up.
  • Response time because application service and database service are running on the same system.

Single Machine
  • Working without application server possible (No installation)
  • No additional computer is needed for the application service.

  • Standalone installation on every end user pc (licensing and activation)
  • No automatic actualization of the components.
  • All connection providers have to be configured on every computer.
  • Response time because the database is on the local system.
